This year, landcare and Landcare Australia are celebrating a 30-year anniversary.
In 1989 on July 20, former Prime Minister Bob Hawke announced that 1990 would be the Year of Landcare, and the 1990s the Decade of Landcare. This was also the year that the not-for-profit organisation Landcare Australia was formed.
In partnership with the Landcare State and Territory organisations and the National Landcare Network, Landcare Australia will be launching a national PR campaign on July 20 to raise awareness of landcare. The campaign will also promote the incredible work that has been achieved during the past three decades, and the contribution landcare will continue to make to our environment and communities in the future.
We encourage you to use the Landcare 30 Year Anniversary campaign as an opportunity to promote the environmental and community outcomes from your local landcare projects. This milestone year also provides a great opportunity to engage your local community to get involved in landcare by volunteering their time and skills.
Landcare Australia is curating stories that exemplify the landcare ethos. These stories will be used across a number of special publications to demonstrate how landcare has shaped Australia and why it is integral to our country’s future.
We are looking for stories that demonstrate positive outcomes for the environment and community. It could be about something that has happened anytime during the last 30 years.
If you have a story about a landcare project or person that has made – and continues to make – a difference to the environment and local community, we’d love to hear it. Follow the link below to submit your story.
