Continued Support for the Care for Landcare Program

environmental action across the state.

The Landcare Association of South Australia Inc. welcomes the announcement of a $1 million commitment for Landcare in South Australia, helping support the thousands of volunteers and community groups working to care for landscapes across the state.

The $1 million commitment has been announced by the South Australian Labor Party ahead of the upcoming state election. It forms part of a $19.2 million package aimed at delivering targeted measures to increase biodiversity and protect native and threatened species across the state. The package has a strong focus on volunteer-driven initiatives and building environmental resilience. The Landcare Association of South Australia Inc. welcomes commitments that recognise the value of Landcare volunteers and support the continuation of programs that strengthen community-led environmental action.

If re-elected, this funding would allow the Care for Landcare program, delivered by the Landcare Association of South Australia Inc., to continue with minimal disruption, ensuring Landcare groups and members across South Australia can maintain access to the support, training and resources they rely on.
Since its launch, the Care for Landcare program has played an important role in strengthening the Landcare movement by building the capacity of volunteer groups and providing practical support to help them care for their local environments.

Continued investment would allow the program to keep delivering key services to Landcare groups and members, including training opportunities, improved insurance access and small grants to assist groups in purchasing equipment and materials for on-ground environmental work.

The program has supported the establishment of a Landcare SA Members Insurance Package, providing more consistent and accessible insurance coverage for Landcare groups across the state. This has helped reduce administrative and financial barriers for volunteers and ensures groups can carry out their activities safely and with confidence.

Supporting Landcare Volunteers

Landcare volunteers across South Australia play a vital role in protecting and restoring local landscapes, from improving soil health and biodiversity to managing weeds and supporting sustainable land management practices.

The Landcare Association of South Australia Inc. encourages all parties to recognise the important role Landcare volunteers play in caring for South Australia’s landscapes.

The Landcare Association of South Australia Inc. looks forward to continuing to support these efforts through the Care for Landcare program and will share further updates on the future of the program in the coming months.
