Gardening Tips from the Experts

Soak up the colours of the season at this year’s SA Autumn Garden Festival.

Whether you’re looking for some garden inspiration, advice or just want to get a glimpse of celebrity guest speaker and host of ABC’s Gardening Australia, Costa Georgiadis, this year’s SA Autumn Garden Festival, held in the Clare Valley on April 6, is one to add to the calendar.

Start the day by visiting the many exciting stalls, or hear from experts in their field from innovative ideas for a drought free garden, followed by top tips on how to care for your lawn thanks to agronomist David Long. Soil scientist and regenerative farmer Adam Burford talks soil health, Inglewood Bees lifts the lid on backyard beekeeping, while horticulturist Derek Gibbons shares details on how to best care for your fruit trees, including how to prune for the most fruitful harvest. Landcare SA will also be on hand with information about the benefits of volunteering with Landcare groups and how to get involved. Meet us at our stall (near Artisan’s Lane) or hear from us and a couple of our member groups at the Garden Shed between 1.30-2pm to hear on the different projects our groups work on. Costa Georgiadis, landscape gardener and host of the ABC’s Gardening Australia, will be speaking from 11.30am-12noon, and Fair Food Activist Rebecca Sullivan will be cooking up a storm with a food demonstration from 12pm-12.30pm.

The annual event, held at the Clare Showgrounds, is a family-friendly day out, with something for every age – even the little ones. There’s rock painting, thanks to SA Rocks, ducks and chooks to pat as part of Mid-North Poultry Club’s interactive display, as well as face painting and seed planting.
