1. Is our group automatically covered if we’re a Landcare SA member?

Accepted Answer

No.
Groups must submit a registration form to be considered for coverage under the insurance package.

2. What activities are covered under the insurance package?

Accepted Answer

Most standard landcare activities are covered, including on-ground works, community engagement, biodiversity activities, and governance.
Activities outside this scope may require prior approval or additional cover. See the &ldquo;Coverage & Inclusions&rdquo; section below for full list.

3. What’s the difference between the Landcare SA Member Insurance Package and the insurance currently offered by the Landscape Boards (cover known as SAFA or SAiCorp)?

Accepted Answer

In some regions, Landcare and similar groups may be able to access free Public Liability and Volunteer Personal Accident insurance through their local Landscape Board. However, these arrangements vary across the state and are not consistently available in all regions.
The Landcare SA Members Insurance Package ensures equal access to insurance for groups across South Australia, regardless of location. In addition to Public Liability and Volunteer Personal Accident cover, this package also includes:

Association Liability insurance, protecting the group and its committee members against claims made while carrying out their duties.
 	Coverage for licensed chainsaw use by group members and volunteers.
 	Reduced administrative burden for groups working across multiple regions or landowners.

Groups may wish to contact their local Landscape Board to explore which insurance option best suits their needs.

4. Who is covered (members, volunteers, contractors, third parties)?

Accepted Answer

Most people working under the direction of an insured Landcare group are covered, including members, volunteers, and employees.
However, contractors and some third parties are generally not covered - see the “Who is Covered” section below for specific scenarios.

Question 5

5. Are events (including large or multi-day events) covered?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but large events (250+ total attendees) must be reviewed by Landcare SA in advance.
See section “Events & Activities” for more information on what constitutes a 250+ event.

Question 6

6. Is equipment or property covered?

Accepted Answer

No.
Group-owned equipment, property, and vehicles require separate insurance policies.

Question 7

7. Who holds the insurance policy under the Landcare SA Members Insurance Package?

Accepted Answer

Landcare SA is the master policy holder for the insurance package. Registered member groups are listed under LASA and covered through this arrangement.

Question 8

8. Does our group have to pay an excess?

Accepted Answer

Landcare SA covers excess claims up to a combined annual limit.
Once this is reached, groups are responsible for their own excess.

Question 9

9. When does the insurance renew, and do we need to do anything?

Accepted Answer

Policies renew at 4pm on 1 November each year.
Groups must submit updated information to maintain coverage.

Question 10

10. Does our group need to be incorporated to access the insurance?

Accepted Answer

No – your group does not need to be incorporated to access the three insurance policies included in the package.

11. Does the insurance cover medical costs or Medicare gaps?

Accepted Answer

No.
Insurance cannot cover any costs that are claimable through Medicare, including out-of-pocket gaps.
