On November 7th 2019, LASA Management Committee members Natalie Sommerville and Sarah Barrett represented the Landcare Association of South Australia at a 10 x 10 philanthropy event in Adelaide. LASA had been invited as one of three charities to make a ‘pitch’ for a share in funds distributed on the night. This was the first time an environmental group was offered to present. The two other not for profit groups were Lisa Fahey Foundation (financial support for primary carers with cancer) and MOSH (suicide prevention). 10 x 10 Philanthropy is an international organisation that encourages the next generation of giving through live crowdfunding. 10×10 events are run by a team of volunteers and are designed to support innovative grassroots charities. They feature a pitch from 3 charities and are a fun mix between a networking event, cocktail party and pitching contest. Participants pledge a minimum amount which is turned into charity dollars and at the end of the night participants decide which charity to support. LASA’S pitch was called Wild Wellbeing – connecting communities with nature to improve mental health and well being outcomes. The pitch was successful and a LASA sub committee is meeting in February 2020 to fine tune the project. Standby for future updates!
