Kanmantoo Callington Landcare Group – Caring for the Bremer River

The Kanmantoo-Callington Landcare Group had 23 people help plant along the Bremer River in Callington on Sunday 6th June as part of their World Environment Day celebrations. The group planted and guarded 150 local trees and bushes. This is the third consecutive year the group has planted in the riparian zone of the river.

There was a very positive vibe amongst the volunteers – they met new local community members, it was a sunny day and they enjoyed the exercise.

Some of them have commented before that their grandchildren remember the planting days and look forward to seeing their large trees in the future. It’s a win-win-win…for the environment, the community and the well being and health of the individuals involved.

The Bremer River is an important riparian corridor for birds & other native fauna and the volunteers efforts helped to improve it and made a difference. Many thanks must go to the volunteers and to the landowners, Don and Olivia, whose land the group planted on. The group hope to progress their work along the river in 2022.
